Dear Journal,
Today was a very special day—it was the first day of kindergarten for all the new children in Ms Strempel's class! I, Dumpling, the classroom hamster, had the best seat in the house to watch everything unfold.
This morning, I woke up extra early because I could sense something exciting was about to happen. Ms Strempel came in with a bright smile, getting the room ready for all the new students. The air was filled with a mix of excitement and a little bit of nervousness, and it made my whiskers tingle with anticipation.
Soon enough, the door opened, and in walked a group of bright-eyed children, each one holding a brand-new backpack and wearing a big smile. Some were a little shy at first, but as they found their seats at the tables, they started to feel more at ease. The classroom was buzzing with the sounds of curious voices and laughter as everyone began to settle in.
The day was full of new experiences for the kids. During circle time, Ms Strempel read a story, and I could see all the children listening carefully, their eyes wide with wonder. They also explored the reading corner, where the tiger chairs quickly became a favorite spot. It was so fun to watch them flip through picture books, their imaginations coming to life with each page.
Snack time brought a lot of excitement too. The children opened their lunchboxes and enjoyed a variety of tasty treats. I, of course, was a little jealous—I do love snacks! But it was heartwarming to see them sharing stories and making new friends over their meals.
Recess was a big hit. Although I couldn’t see what happened outside, I could hear the joyful sounds of laughter and running feet when the kids came back in. They returned with rosy cheeks and happy smiles, full of energy from their playtime.
As the day came to an end, the children gathered their things, and I could tell that many of them felt proud of how their first day had gone. Ms Strempel gave each one a high-five as they left, and I felt a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. It was clear that this was going to be a great year in our classroom.
Now, as I snuggle into my cozy bedding for the night, I’m reflecting on what a wonderful day it was. Watching the children experience their first day of kindergarten was so special. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings—more stories, more playtime, and more smiles.
Until tomorrow,
Dumpling

Love this! Are you going to share it with Mrs. Strempel? Has Nolan heard it yet?
